Marvel Studio’s mega-hit Deadpool & Wolverine has achieved what some would think to be impossible in the current cinema environment. They’ve managed to become only the 2nd R-rated film in history to join the “billion-dollar club” worldwide.
The film has gone from strength to strength as word of mouth spreads taking in around 1.03 billion dollars gross at the global box office. The only other R-rated film to achieve this was 2019’s “Joker” movie starring Joaquin Phoenix which reached $1.07 billion.
It’s also only the 2nd film this year to hit that billion-dollar mark. The other being at the other end of the ratings spectrum, the kids film “Inside Out 2” reached $1.56 billion for Pixar.
On its current trajectory “Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to continue to dominate the box office for the next few weeks and eventually overtake “The Joker” becoming a welcome change for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that appears to be on a course correction after a few flops.
