Stellar Blade is the latest PlayStation Exclusive that has dropped and although the reviews are mixed, most players agree that the visuals are superb, and the gameplay is pretty solid.

In the game, The future of humanity hangs in the balance Ravaged by strange, powerful creatures, Earth has been abandoned, and what is left of the decimated human race has fled to a Colony in outer space.

After traveling from the Colony, 7th Airborne Squad member EVE arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from a malevolent force that has devastated it.

But as EVE tackles the enemy one-by-one, piecing together the mysteries of the past in the ruins of human civilization, she realizes that her mission is far from straightforward. In fact, almost nothing is as it seems…

Stellar Blade is a mixed bag. On one hand, its packed with some of the most stunning visuals we’ve ever seen on any next gen console title and with a Sekiro-inspired combat system and you’d think that it would be a match made in heaven (in many ways it is). On the other hand, the depth of story and character development isn’t all that deep. The conversations that happen between characters feels somewhat unnatural and I can’t help but think something has been lost in translation somewhere along the way as the game is developed by Korean company Shift Up.

All that aside I can’t speak highly enough of the classic Asian inspired animation that feels like has been missing from game titles in recent years as developers tend to go for a form of hyper realism instead. Shift Up have nailed the aesthetics here, and I found myself engaged in the beauty of the character design and amazed at the creatures who at times can be wonderfully confronting.

The world is stunning as a post-apocalyptic backdrop on the planet while a creative futuristic dream in space. An interactive comic is available to experience for free to really embrace the world building here

So, would I recommend it?
