Some things just go together so well. The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International have launched an exciting new collaboration that brings the world of Pokémon to life in a completely new way. The brand new LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets are officially here, and they are designed to let children, and let us be honest, adults too, feel like real Pokémon Trainers.

Having experienced the previous Star Wars Smart Play sets, which were an absolute blast to build and interact with, the idea of this technology merging with Pokémon is exciting. The SMART Brick tech is incredibly unique and functions far better than you would think. Seeing it adapted for Pokémon creates an overwhelming urge to capture every single set.

These sets are not just about stacking bricks; they are about bringing your favourite characters to life. The lineup features fan-favourite Pokémon including Pikachu, Charizard, Squirtle, Gengar, and Mewtwo. Aimed at builders aged six and up, these sets promise interactive, screen-free play that allows you to discover, train, nurture, and battle across twelve brand new releases.

What is LEGO SMART Play Technology?

For those who might not be familiar, LEGO SMART Play is a massive leap forward for interactive toys. At the heart of this system is the LEGO SMART Brick. This clever little device is packed with more than twenty patented, world-first features. What does that actually mean for you when you are playing? It means your LEGO builds can respond to your actions through light, sound, motion, and sensing. The best part is that it does all of this without requiring a smartphone or tablet screen.

The LEGO Group’s Chief Marketing and Product Officer, Julia Goldin, shared that this is the first time LEGO Pokémon creatures will respond to children’s actions. Gaku Susai, Chief Product and Experience Officer at The Pokémon Company International, added that this interactive approach gives young Trainers a hands-on way to engage with the Pokémon world.

Build, Train, Nurture, and Battle

The interactivity is what really makes them special. Instead of just placing a finished model on a shelf, these twelve new sets encourage you to play out fun stories and moments inspired by the Pokémon universe.

For example, you can actually feed your LEGO Pikachu a brick-built sandwich using a LEGO SMART Tag. If you have the Charizard set, you can tickle your LEGO Charizard to get a joyful laugh. The system is designed so that the more you play and interact with your Pokémon, the stronger your bond becomes, perfectly preparing you for spectacular battles with friends and family.

Exploring the All-in-One Sets

The range is split into two types of products: All-in-One sets and Compatible sets. The All-in-One sets give you everything you need to start your interactive journey right out of the box, including at least one LEGO SMART Brick, a SMART Charger, and LEGO SMART Tags.
