At the conclusion of season 2, which was set in Italy, writer and director Mike White hinted that season 3 might take place somewhere in Asia and focus on “death and Eastern religion and spirituality.”
Variety exclusively revealed that, “‘The White Lotus’ is heading to Thailand,” according to their multiple sources who are “close to the production”.

The first 2 seasons of the award winning show were set at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy. The luxury hotel chain has 4 locations across, located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and the Golden Triangle. With Thailand’s four resorts spread across city, country, jungle and beach, the different locations give White and his team a variety of locations to play with.

“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said in a clip pegged at the end of the Season 2 finale. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus” said White.
Production is yet to begin on season 3 but as sources say, White has been spending a considerable amount of his time in Thailand “scoping out sites.”

Casting details are also yet to be finalised, but with the ensemble changing from season 1 to 2, it is almost certain that we’ll see plenty of fresh faces in season 3.
