After immense excitement from the fanbase and from the shows cast, it appears that sadly Buffy will not be returning to our screens.
It was announced in 2025 that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chloe Zhao will be collaborating on reviving the beloved Buffy the Vampire series. Gellar was set to return to the series herself as the original Vampire Slayer, mentoring a new slayer. The newest slayer was even cast, a young actress named Ryan Kiera Armstrong was set to lead the newest series. Alas, Hulu seemed to have other plans and have decided not to move forward with the series. Michelle Gellar took to instagram herself to share the news to heartbroken fans.

Whilst things seem to be dead in the water for the return of Buffy right now, there’s nothing to say other studios mightn’t take interest. It was announced today that another Joss Whedon original, Firefly, has also started the pitching circuit to land a home for a revival series. What’s to stop Buffy from doing the same?
