Supermarkets and Fast Food Chains Are Rejecting US Beef in Support of Aussie Farmers

In a controversial decision, the federal government has lifted a 20-year policy, allowing Canadian and Mexican cattle slaughtered in the US to be imported into Australia. In response, the Trump administration imposed a 10% tariff on Australian exports, applying the lowest universal tariff rate to the country.

Despite this development, Australian consumers are unlikely to encounter US beef on supermarket shelves or in fast-food outlets.

Major retailers and fast-food chains, including Aldi, Coles, McDonald’s, and Woolworths, have reaffirmed their commitment to exclusively stocking Australian beef.

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed to NewsWire that the retailer has no plans to deviate from its current policy of sourcing 100% Australian red meat.

Similarly, Aldi and Coles representatives echoed this stance, stressing their dedication to supporting local beef producers.

McDonald’s, which serves approximately 80 million kilograms of beef in Australia each year, also stated it would not be sourcing beef from North America.

For now, it seems Australians can rest assured that their favorite retailers and restaurants remain steadfast in delivering homegrown beef.
