In a whimsical twist of events, the town of Landerneau in Brittany, France, has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs. On May 17, 2025, a total of 3,076 participants donned blue attire and white hats, surpassing the previous record of 2,762 set by Lauchringen, Germany, in 2019

This achievement marks Landerneau’s third attempt at the record. Their 2020 effort, which saw 3,549 participants, was not officially recognized, and a 2023 attempt was hindered by inclement weather . Undeterred, the town rallied once more, with locals and visitors alike embracing the Smurf spirit. The event was organized by the association Pays de Landerneau-Daoulas, with support from Paramount Pictures France and the Peyo Company, aligning with the upcoming release of a new Smurfs film scheduled for July 16, 2025

Participants transformed the town into a sea of blue, complete with white trousers and the iconic Smurf hats. The atmosphere was electric, filled with singing and dancing, as attendees celebrated their shared love for the beloved blue characters. The event not only brought joy to the community but also highlighted the enduring appeal of the Smurfs, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo in 1958.

With the record now officially recognized, Landerneau has solidified its place in Smurf history. The town’s dedication and community spirit serve as a testament to what can be achieved when people come together for a common, albeit blue, goal. As the release of the new Smurfs film approaches, fans worldwide can look to Landerneau as the epitome of Smurf enthusiasm.
