Van Dairy axed as Fonterra milk supplier

Multi-national dairy processor Fonterra says employment at its two Coastal facilities at Spreyton and Wynyard won’t be affected by the company’s decision to drop Van Dairy as a milk supplier.

Van Dairy runs 7000 cattle over the vast Woolnorth Farm, West of Smithton, employing around 140 people in the Circular Head area.

Fonterra stopped collecting milk from Van Dairies last week.

Fonterra farm sourcing general manager Matt White says there’s no plans to downsize production at Wynyard and Spreyton, with the company finding alternative suppliers for its facilities.

Mr White says Fonterra is committed to its farmers and employees on the North-West Coast.
