Former Labor Senator Anne Urquhart has scored a stunning win for the Government in Braddon in the Federal Election.
Mrs Urquhart has spearheaded a massive 15.1% swing against the Liberal-held seat, one of the biggest in the nation, soundly defeating Liberal first-timer Mal Hingston.
Mr Hingston was trying to win the seat held by retiring member Gavin Pearce.
Winning 39.9% of the primary vote, Mrs Urquhart has secured 57% of the vote on a two-party preferred basis.
Requiring an 8% swing to win the seat, Mrs Urquhart says while confident, even she was surprised by the margin.
The Labor Party won four of the five Tasmanian seats, with former state opposition leader Rebecca White comfortably taking the seat of Lyons.
