Retailers and tourism operators in Burnie and the North West Coast have been left counting the cost of lost revenue after two international cruise ships due today, have been turned away.

TasPorts says the Silver Muse and the Noordam were both unable to dock due to large swells making it unsafe.

Many of the visitors were planning to take day trips to Cradle Mountain, the Don River Railway, Wings Wildlife Park at Gunns Plains, and the Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary at Mole Creek.

The largest vessel to visit Burnie this week will be the Queen Elizabeth, on Wednesday, with 2092 passengers and 900 crew on board.
