There’s been a disruptive end to a bumper summer for a much-loved Tasmanian tourist attraction.
A minor derailment struck the West Coast Wilderness Railway late last month.
A locomotive’s front wheels came off the tracks at low speed between Strahan and Dubbil Barril – no one was hurt.
Railway engineers have examined the track and reported findings to the National Rail Safety Regulator.
While Queenstown services are still running as normal, all services from Strahan are cancelled until further notice.
“This week has been exceptionally tough on our team. While our rail operations department has been conducting investigations, our ticketing staff have been contacting all impacted passengers,” said the Railway’s Acting General Manager Ian Robertson.
“Unfortunately, in a small number of cases, this has led to our team being abused and harassed, which is unacceptable. These cancellations impact our team too and they deserve better.”
