The State Government has opened the consultation period on Tasmania’s first renewable energy zone on the North-West Coast (seen in yellow on the map above).

The zone will be established near Hampshire, South of Burnie, encompassing 114,000 hectares, taking in parts of three Local Government areas in Burnie, Waratah-Wynyard and Central Coast.

Energy Minister Nick Duigan says the zone, which is currently a mix of forestry and agriculture, will open the door to new renewable generation projects and create jobs and economic benefits for the region.
