Study to consider Coastal Pathway extension

March 27, 2024 10:15 am in by

A new study has been commissioned to investigate the feasibility of extending the Coastal Pathway from Wynyard to Smithton.

The original concept of the shared walking and cycling pathway was to extend 110 km from Latrobe to Wynyard, but the Waratah-Wynyard Council has commissioned a report into the viability of extending it further West, with much of it utilising the disused rail corridor from Wynyard to Wiltshire Junction, near Stanley.

Work is currently underway on the Cooee to Wynyard link, with the Burnie to Heybridge and West Ulverstone to Penguin stages yet to start construction.
