RSPCA to close Latrobe facility, but services won’t suffer

RSPCA Tasmania will close its Latrobe adoption and retail centre as it grapples with a $100,000 operating loss for the past year. The organisation has decided to rationalise its operations, also planning to close its Launceston adoption and retail centre.

The RSPCA says affected staff members will be offered other roles within the organisation.

The charity says an upcoming expansion and refurbishment of the Devonport Animal Care Centre at Spreyton will allow it to centralise its care model.

The upgrades will include facilities for larger animals including horses and more kennels, as well as additional safe beds to care for the animals of people fleeing family violence.

The organisation says the planned works at Spreyton will future-proof the facility for the next 20 years.
