A new report has identified the North-West Coast as a domestic and family violence hot spot, with the highest rate in the state.
The Unsafe and Un-housed report from Anglicare Tasmania says governments need make the Coast a priority when allocating funding to assist victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
The report says Tasmania Police data says reports of domestic violence in the North-West are 35 per cent higher than the rest of the state and the number of people seeking housing assistance due to domestic violence is almost four times higher.
Anglicare is calling on State and Federal Governments to make the North-West a priority when allocating funding to assist victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
The agency says housing options for victim-survivors fleeing domestic violence situations are extremely limited on the North-West Coast and it’s urging the State Government to a North-West ARCH Centre, as promised in the election, which is urgently needed.
