Police say they’re not impressed with some North-West Coast drivers not taking road safety seriously over the long weekend.

Road safety operations conducted by police across the North West Coast between Devonport and Burnie at the start of the break on Friday night saw three people charged with drink driving and two others with driving while disqualified.

Police say it amounts to multiple decisions by individuals which could have ended in tragedy.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Railton man has also been charged with high-range drink driving after he was intercepted by police on Franklin Street, Devonport around 10pm on Sunday.

The man returned a breath analysis reading of 0.192 – almost four times the legal limit.

He was also charged with driving while disqualified.

The man was arrested and bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police say they will continue to target dangerous driving behaviours like speeding, mobile phone use and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
