Police busy during April

Police on the North-West and West Coasts have had a busy month, with 40 people charged with almost 100 charges during April, according to the latest statistics from Tasmania Police.

Taskforce Scelus members also searched 16 residences, seized four vehicles, and recovered two stolen motor vehicles as part lof their operations.

Police say while the taskforce is largely aimed at illicit drugs and firearms related offences, it has also focussed on crime more broadly, resulting in 40 people being charged with 93 offences.

Some of the more serious crimes included two carjacking offences, two counts of motor vehicle stealing, 11 counts of drug driving, five of evading police and seven for driving while disqualified.

Seven people were also charged with failing to wear a bicycle helmet.
