A second Coastal football club has gone into recess for the upcoming 2024 season.
The West Ulverstone Football Club, which plays in the NWFA competition, has posted on its Facebook page saying the club doesn’t have sufficient player numbers to field both seniors and reserves sides, as required by the NWFA constitution.
The Lions recess follows on from the Natone Football Club’s announcement two weeks ago that is was also pulling out of the Burnie-based Darwin Football Association.
The Magpies also went into recess in 2019, but re-joined the DFA post-COVID in 2021.
Meanwhile, West Ulverstone’s withdrawal comes despite advising the NWFA executive on February 9 – a deadline imposed by the association – that it had the numbers to go ahead in 2024.
The Lions’ demise will eliminate the bye from the previously nine-team NWFA competition, which was due to start on April 6th, with the roster now required to be re-drawn.
