The North-West Coast’s new state-of-the-art organic composting facility at Dulverton, near Latrobe, will officially open next week.

The $16 million facility will treat organic waste from Food Organic Garden Organic, or FOGO, kerbside recycling collections from the region.

FOGO collections in Latrobe, Kentish and Waratah-Wynyard started this week, while Devonport will come on line next week.

Ulverstone has had FOGO since 2019.

The new facility will process organic waste from up to 46,000 households across all five municipalities and has the capacity to upscale when Circular Head and Burnie join the FOGO scheme sometime in the future.

The facility can produce 16,000 tonnes of compost by-product a year, which is already being sold through 16 sites around Tasmania in the nursery, gardening and landscaping industries.
