A new truck wash in Smithton is set to strengthen biosecurity protections for the livestock industry, while delivering cleaner roads and better environmental outcomes.
The new three bay station catering for the growing needs of the livestock transport industry in the North West will feature an advanced waste separating system by Taswater, allowing transporters to wash down vehicles before returning to public roads.
Federal Member Anne Urquhart and Minister Gavin Pearce both highlighted the facility’s role in supporting the region’s agricultural and freight industries and the sustainability of the red meat sector.
The Smithton truck wash joins a location in Burnie and King Island, with a Stanley wash opening later this year.
Joint Federal and state funding alongside Taswater and the Cradle Coast Authority delivering the multi-million dollar initiative.
CCA CEO Philip Reid said bringing the truck wash into operation was an absolute priority for the region, given the high volume of livestock transport in and out of Smithton.
