The Cuprona Football Club, which has been without clubrooms for almost three years after fire destroyed the facility in 2021, will have to wait a bit longer for its replacement.
The Central Coast Council said last year the replacement facility, which will also serve as a community centre for Heybridge would be ready by early this year, but the completion has been delayed.
Ironically, it’s because there’s insufficient water pressure to meet Tasmania Fire Service approval, meaning the council can’t issue a certificate of occupancy.
The new clubrooms were scheduled to be opened this weekend, but that’s been put on hold for now.
For the past two seasons, the club has been forced to operate out of shipping containers and has had very limited fundraising opportunities without a clubroom.
Central Coast Mayor Cheryl Fuller says she’s extremely disappointed for the club and the wider community.
The council met with club officials yesterday to determine how the council can continue to support the club for the remainder of the football season.
