Miss Charlie Brown through to Devonport Cup

Locally-trained stayer Miss Charlie Brown has a guaranteed start in next month’s $100,000 Devonport Cup following an all-the-way win in the 1650 metre Golden Mile at Spreyton.

The winner of the the $50,000 Golden Mile, along with winners the upcoming Sheffield and Longford Cups gain automatic selection for the Devonport Cup.

The Adam Trinder-trained five year-old mare, ridden by Erica Byrne, never look seriously challenged to win by one and half lengths from race favourite Ashy Boy, trained at Wesley Vale by Glenn Stevenson.

The Devonport Cup is one race which has eluded Trinder in the past, but he believes Miss Charlie Brown, who finished fifth in last year’s Launceston Cup, is a genuine contender.
