The majority of Coastal councils will hold their Australia Day awards presentations and citizenship ceremonies on Sunday, January 26th.
Only Devonport and Burnie will present awards on different dates, deeming the 26th culturally insensitive, with Devonport’s ceremony at the Paranaple Convention Centre on Thursday night and Burnie’s awards on January 29th at the Burnie Arts Precinct.
However, both Coastal cities will have non-council events on Sunday, with the Aussie Fun Day in Burnie and the Great Australian Sand Castle Competition at the Mersey Bluff Beach in Devonport.
The Circular Head Council will present its awards at the Community and Recreation Centre from 2-4 pm on Sunday, separate to the Day on the Duck Festival, which will run from 12-7 pm on West Esplanade.
Awards in Waratah-Wynyard and Kentish Municipalities will be part of community breakfast events at Gutteridge Gardens and the Sheffield Town Hall respectively.
The Central Coast awards will be presented at the Brunch by the Beach event at the Ulverstone Sound Shell, while Latrobe will hold its awards ceremony at the Latrobe Memorial Hall at 10am on Sunday, separate to the Henley on Mersey Festival at Bells Parade.
