Home Fires in the North

A bad day for property fires in Tasmania’s north, with two homes destroyed.

The first was a blaze early yesterday morning at a Propsect Vale unit, with crews managing to stop it spreading to other homes in the complex.

“When crews arrived they found the structure fully involved, and it took approximately thirty minutes to bring the fire under control”, said Heath Bracey from the TFS.

He also explained how the TFS is trying to determine how the fire started.

“We’ve used the aerial appliance, we’ve used thermal imaging, and gas detection to determine the cause”, he said.

Police allege the fire was deliberately lit.

Then yesterday afternoon a fire wiped out a home at Beaconsfield on Weld Street. A man and his elderly mother escaped the blaze, with the woman taken to the LGH for observation.

“We’ll get the Fire Investigator out, he’ll sort through the remains of the structure to determine the cause of the fire”, said Beaconsfield Brigade Chief Todd Russell.
