With Winter right around the corner, we’re being prompted to take measures against house fires.
According to the Tasmania Fire Service, the colder months typically bring a spike in residential fires, mostly due to the increased use of heating equipment, and extra cooking.
TFS Regional Chief Simon Pilkington says now is the time to take a proactive approach – with working smoke alarms the best chance of escaping a house fire alive, the recommendation is to have them installed in every sleeping area, hallway, and storey of your home.
Households are encouraged to develop a home fire escape plan, keep flammable items away from heaters and ensure lithium ion batteries are stored and charged as safely as possible.
