Hobart’s Davey Street is notorious for congestion and collisions, and it’s been revealed to be the location of the most road accidents in the city, with failure to give way accounting for 39 per cent of prangs.
New data from insurer AAMI has found Tuesdays are the most dangerous day of the week for crashes in the area and most bingles occur there during the evening peak hour.
Hobart’s top 5 crash hotspots are:
- Davey Street, Hobart
- Macquarie Street, Hobart
- Brooker Highway, Hobart
- Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay
- Main Road, Moonah
AAMI spokesperson Anna Cartwright revealed driver distraction was a leading cause behind local accidents.
“Regardless of the day or time, driving through one of the identified hot spots, dropping your kids off at school or simply popping out to the local shops, every time you get behind the wheel we urge drivers throughout Tasmania to maintain focus on the task at hand, follow the speed limit and abide by all road rules,” Ms Cartwright said.
“Most risks on the road can be mitigated if people pay attention and drive to the conditions.”
Motor insurance claims show that in Tasmania, Friday afternoons are the most common time for accidents on our roads and males aged over 65 years are the most likely to be behind the wheel.
