Hobart Remand Centre assault claim

Professional Standards is assessing the case surrounding a 20 year old Aboriginal man hospitalised by an alleged attack by staff at the Hobart Remand Centre.

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre claims his clothes were cut from his body then set on by police and custodial staff and left lying in his own blood for 12 hours last Thursday night into Friday morning (October 20 to 21).

The centre wants the police officers stood down while an independent investion’s carried out.

Police state the man was charged with four breach of bail conditions, possessing a controlled drug, aggravated assault, resisting a police officer, threatening a police officer and assault of a public officer.

The Greens have sought more information from the state government in parliament.
