The State Government will invest more than $1.1 million into two new projects on the North-West Coast being led by the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture.

Primary Industries and Water Minister Jane Howlett says the funding is in addition to the $5 million a year the Government provides for the institute under a joint venture agreement with the University of Tasmania.

$460,00 of the additional money will fund go towards establishing a zero-net emissions horticulture demonstration farm at the institute’s vegetable research facility at Forthside.

$700,000 will also be provided for a supplementary feed facility at the institute’s dairy research facility at Elliott and a new greenhouse facility.

The feed facility will reduce the reliance on commercially produced feed, while the greenhouse will allow a wide range of studies and testing of new technologies in vegetables, poppies, pyrethrum, and wine grapes growing.
