Thousands of people are expected to pound the pavement in Devonport on Sunday for the annual Bluff to Boat Ramp Fun Run.

The event will offer runs of 500m for children and 1.5 km, 5 km and 10km for the more serious runners and walkers, with organisers hopeful of a total field of more than 2000 participants.

Competition at the pointy end of the 10km event is expected to be intense, with the race carrying $17,000 in prizemoney, making it Australia’s richest 10km race and attracting elite runners from all over the country.

The event will also double as the Tasmanian 10km championships, with race director Brian Lyons expecting fast times due to the generally flat nature of the course.

A number of road closures will be in place on Sunday morning.
