Applications are open for a trip of a lifetime for Tasmanian Year 9 students through the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize.
The essay competition helps to promote and preserve the meaning of the Anzac spirit in the Tasmanian community and is named after Ulverstone World War One and Two veteran Frank MacDonald.
Mr MacDonald was Tasmania’s last surviving World War One veteran and died in 2023, aged 107
The prize named in his honour gives six young Tasmanians the opportunity of participating in a two-week study tour of the Western Front in France and Belgium, and to attend the Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Australian National Memorial, at Villers-Bretonneux.
The students will be accompanied by a tour leader, two teachers, a representative from RSL Tasmania and a Parliamentarian.
Veteran’s Affairs Minister Guy Barnett says the prize provides an incredible opportunity for young Tasmanians to walk in the footsteps of Tasmanian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice over 100 years ago.
