Residents in four Coastal municipalities will start receiving food organic garden organic, or FOGO, kerbside recycling bins from next week ahead of collection services to start from July 1st.
Devonport, Latrobe, Kentish, and Waratah-Wynyard will commence fortnightly FOGO services, with normal household wheelie bin collections changing to once a fortnight instead of once a week, due to the anticipated reduction in general waste.
Latrobe already has fortnightly general waste collections.
Central Coast has had FOGO since 2019 and has seen a 50% reduction in the amount of waste going to landfill as a result.
Meanwhile, the Circular Head Council says it’s planning to introduce FOGO next year, while the Burnie City Council is yet to commit to a date.
