Focus on shoplifters during festive season

Tasmania Police say they are actively addressing shoplifting incidents across the North-West Coast in the lead-up to Christmas, detailing arrests made over the past few days as an example.

On Friday, police arrested and charged a 15 year-old youth in Burnie with eight counts of shoplifting-related offences, alleging he had stolen a range of items from various retail outlets in recent weeks.

On Saturday, police also arrested a 19 year-old female in Devonport and charged her with stealing after an incident at a local store.

Since the start of this month, police say they’ve arrested and charged 12 offenders across the North-West Coast with shoplifting related offences.

Police say they are committed to tackling shoplifting offenders, particularly during the busy festive season.

They say they understand the pressures retailers face at this time of year and they will be increasing their presence in and around shopping precincts to deter theft and provide reassurance to businesses and shoppers alike.
