The first stage of the $20 million Burnie Cultural Precinct redevelopment has opened.
The first stage, costing $7.5 million was opened by Federal Local Government and Regional Development Minister Catherine King.
Construction on the first stage began in April last year and has been achieved through a $5million Federal Government Community Development Grant, with the Burnie City Council also contributing $2.5 million.
Burnie Mayor Teeny Brumby says although it’s only the first stage, it’s already breathed new life into the Burnie Arts Centre.
Councillor Brumby says the redevelopment doesn’t just create a venue, but it creates an environment where arts and culture can thrive, where the community can gather, and where the next generation of makers can be inspired.
