A piece of Tasmania’s history is up for grabs – if you’ve got a spare $12 million.

Tarraleah was established in the 1930s by the Hydro Electric Commission, with family houses built to attract skilled workers to one of Australia’s first hydroelectric schemes.

The village grew throughout the 20th century – with churches, a town hall, cinema, hospital, supermarket, pub and more built to support the population.  But as capital works reached completion in the 80s and 90s, workers moved on to other projects around the state, and the township eventually closed.

In 2006, the estate underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment, and has since been operating as a tourist accommodation destination.

The 147 hectare property is now on the market, with expressions of interest closing Friday 17th February.
