February 20, 2024 10:04 am in by

Traffic delays associated with the new bridge over the Cam River on the Bass Highway at Somerset look set to continue for some weeks despite the recent opening of the new structure.

Demolition of the old bridge started on Monday, with the Department of State Growth saying the work will take around 10 weeks to complete and motorists are being asked to plan for delays of up to eight minutes at a time.

Some of the machinery and infrastructure associated with the demolition is expected to impact traffic movement on the new bridge, with work being done between 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays.

The Department says the overall project is still on schedule to be completed by April.

During the demolition process, speed limits and traffic controls will be in force on the bridge.
