Coastal theatres getting a new look

The Paranaple Centre Town Hall Theatre in Devonport is also undergoing a three-month renovation, which includes new carpet, a new ceiling, painting throughout and new seating.

Total cost of the project is around $500,000 and it will be the first facelift forf the theatre in more than 20 years.

The theatre seats, which have been there since 1981 have been removed and will be replaced.

The theatre will have a blue theme, replacing the red theme it’s had since the 1990s, and mustard before that.

Meanwhile, stage one of the $20 million redevelopment of the Burnie Arts and Function Centre is nearing completion.

The first stage includes the new refurbished long room which will display Burnie stories drawn from objects and images in the city’s extensive art and museum collections.

The Southern entry and the new café, which will complete stage one, is expected to be open early next year.

Preparations for stage two are underway, which includes a re-imagining the internal courtyard and establishing a glazed roof, the installation of a lift and completion of the Northern extension.
