Coastal teacher one of the nation’s best

A Coastal teacher has received national recognition for his work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM.

Montello Primary School teacher Daniel Edwards has been named winner of the Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in STEM at a ceremony in Canberra.

Mr Edwards has been recognised for his work in encouraging all students, regardless of background, to engage with STEM subjects and consider a career in science and engineering.

His development of a Digital Technologies Programme at Montello has seen an unprecedented increase in student engagement and achievement in STEM.

Tasmanian Senator Anne Urquhart, who attended the awards ceremony says the Prime Minister’s education prizes are very prestigious and the Braddon Electorate is lucky to have teachers like Mr Edwards who are committed to breaking down barriers for students.
