Six Tasmanian Year Nine students, including one from the North-West Coast, have flown out for France and Belgium on the trip of a lifetime after being named winners of the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize.

The prize is named after Ulverstone-born World War One and World War Two veteran Frank MacDonald, who passed away in 2003, aged 107, as Tasmania’s last surviving First World War veteran.

Minister of Veteran’s Affairs Guy Barnett says the six students wrote outstanding essays on commemorating and preserving the meaning of the ANZAC spirit in the Tasmanian community.
