Victims of domestic violence will be remembered at a special candlelight vigil in Ulverstone on Wednesday.
The Zonta Club of Devonport and Soroptimist International are hosting the free community event at the Gnomon Pavillion, starting at 6 pm.
The vigil will follow a national cabinet gathering of federal and state leaders in Canberra to try and work out how to stem the tide of violence against women.
New data from the Australian Institute of Criminology’s National Homicide Monitoring Programme shows the number of women killed by a partner leapt by twenty-eight-percent in the 12-months to June last year.
16% of all murders in Australia in the same period were carried out by current or former intimate partners, with 27 women so far this year killed by a partner or spouse.
