Members of the public are being reminded not to interfere with little penguins, especially in the Burnie area.
The Penguin Rehab and Release Group has received reports from people concerned that some penguins are nesting away from the rookery at West Point.
In a post on its Facebook page, the group says anyone coming across a penguin away from the main rookery should keep their distance and not hinder its progress as it most likely has hungry chicks waiting in a nearby burrow.
People are also being reminded little penguins are wild and wholly protected and interfering with them is an offence.
Motorists are also being asked to keep an eye open for penguins near the three major Coastal rookeries at Lillico Beach, West Beach and Stanley by driving slower after dark and giving way to waddling penguins
Penguins are also active in smaller numbers around Port Sorell, Strahan, and of course – at Penguin.
