Shadow Infrastructure Minister and Braddon MP Anita Dow says TasPorts headquarters should be moved from Launceston to Devonport where it used to be.
TasPorts came into existence in 2006 when the State Government amalgamated the Port of Devonport, Burnie and Hobart Ports corporations with the Port of Launceston Authority.
It’s headquarters was in Devonport for 13 years, before being transferred to Launceston in 2019.
Ms Dow says if the headquarters had remained in Devonport, maybe the Spirit of Tasmania replacement ships and berth delays may not have occurred.
She says it’s time to return the HQ to Devonport, with the former offices in Formby Road a perfect location to oversee the delayed berth infrastructure project.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff, who was Infrastructure Minister when the headquarters was transferred to Launceston, says the re-evaluation of Government Business Enterprises will look at whether there’s merit in merging TasPorts, TasRail and TT-Line, saying the North-West could be an option for the headquarters of a single entity.
