Burnie reserve fire may have been deliberately lit

Police are investigating a deliberately lit vegetation fire in Burnie on Saturday night.

Emergency services responded to reports of a vegetation fire at the View Road Reserve around 9 pm, with a section of bush and vegetation on the reserve’s Eastern boundary well alight on arrival.

A number of Tasmania Fire Service crews attended, with the fire being brought under control after an hour or so.

The fire burnt approximately an acre of vegetation with smoke from the fire drifting over surrounding streets and residences, promoting the fire service to issue a smoke alert.

Investigations into the cause are ongoing, but police say they believe it has been deliberately lit.
