Australian Red Cross Lifeblood has sent out an urgent call for new blood donors after a record number of cancellations from regular donors during the current cold and flu season.
The organisation says up to 1000 donors chair around the country are empty each day due to donors calling in sick.
On average one in five donors have cancelled or re-scheduled – the highest rate in five years.
Around 33,000 donations a week nationally are required to meet demand for blood products.
You can book an appointment to donate blood at the Devonport of Burnie Donor Centres by calling 13 14 95, on-line at lifeblood.com.au or by downloading the Donate Blood app.
