RSPCA Tasmania has succeeded in shutting down the state’s largest puppy farm, Tasmanian Labradoodles.
More than 250 labradoodles are now being surrendered to the RSPCA and financial help and homes are now being sought.
CEO Andrea Dawkins has described the outcome as “very rewarding”.
“Having that deed of agreement finally signed felt like the beginning for a lot of us on the project management team to get these animals off the site and into homes,” she said.
Ms Dawkins said it had been frustrating the case had taken several years to reach this point.
“But unfortunately this is the nature of animal welfare cases,” she said.
She said the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee has been assessing dog regulations, and that assessment would be coming out for community consultation in the coming weeks.
“And that will let people tell authorities how they want dogs to be treated in Tasmania,” she said.
