E-scooter hire provider Beam has confirmed it won’t be returning to the North-West Coast in the foreseeable future.

Burnie hosted a trial of the company’s distinctive purple scooters in Burnie in 2022, but the company withdrew the service last June, saying at the time demand in Burnie was limited even in the warmer months.

A trial was to follow in summer in Devonport, restricted to the city’s foreshore and Don Reserve shared pathways, which however, didn’t eventuate.

Beam has reiterated it’s data has shown that demand in Burnie is limited, even during warmer months, saying it has no plans to recommence shared e-scooter operations in Burnie.

The company says this has caused a pause on launch plans in Devonport.

However, Beam says it’s actively looking into options to bring micro-mobility to the North-West Coast, including exploring demand and feasibility of long-term private rentals.

E-scooters for hire won’t been seen anytime soon on the North-West Coast.

Beam was recently was granted an exclusive 12-month operational licence for Hobart following on from a successful trial period.
