Police have arrested 82 people across the North-West Coasts and laid 188 charges in the past two months.

Tasmania Police says the arrests and charges are part of the Taskforce Scelus operation, which commenced in late November.

While the taskforce has had a major focus on illicit drug use and firearms, police say they’ve also been targeting crime more broadly in the North-West including traffic operations.

Police say the operation has netted $5000 worth of stolen property, 87 cannabis plants, three illegal firearms and small quantities of cannabis and ice.

44 properties and vehicles were also searched, 42 traffic infringements were issued, nine vehicles were seized and three liquor infringements were issued.

Police say the taskforce seized both highly addictive drugs and dangerous weapons that had the potential to cause significant harm in the community.
