There has been another setback for the nation’s troubled Antarctic program.
The much-vaunted Nuyina icebreaker remains in dry dock in Singapore due to mechanical faults, and now its replacement charter has also hit a snag.
The Happy Diamond ran aground on a shoal off Mawson Station during a resupply mission on Sunday evening.
The Australian Antarctic Division has revealed it did minor damage to a ballast tank and thankfully there’s no danger to personnel, the vessel or the environment, and it is now on its way back to Hobart.
