It’s a sign of changing times, but yet another North-West public payphone has been earmarked for removal.
Tesltra has advised it’s planning to remove the phone booth at Claude Road near Gowrie Park unless someone can come up with a compelling case for it’s retention.
The telco is calling for public submissions, with a final decision on it’s future to be made on March 20th.
The Claude Road phone is the only one in Tasmania of 18 around the country currently earmarked for removal by Telstra.
It follows on from a similar fate for a public phone booth at Stowport, with Telstra announcing last month, following public consultation, it would proceed with removal of 38 phone booths around the country, including the one at Stowport.
