UTAS has found a buyer for the Fountainside Hotel in Hobart’s CBD, no longer needing it for international student accommodation.
The state government’s bought the 50 unit property to accommodate health workers arriving in the city.
Royal Hobart Hospital’s Acting Nursing Director Erin Smallbon regards it as a sweetener for attracting new talent.
“They are able to come here, they don’t have to think about that from the very beginning, they can be able to land, work out what their next steps might be, that gives them 6 to 12 weeks in order to establish where they might like to live, where their kids might like to go to school.”

“For the Royal Hobart Hospital, when they are bringing in key workers they’ll have a safe, secure, friendly and comfortable place to rest their head, it’s going to be important in terms of our work to continue to attract and retain more frontline workers.”
