A southern Tasmanian man will face court in Melbourne next month over hit-run charges dating back nearly three decades.

The man, now aged 61 and living in Oakdowns, has handed himself in at Prahran police station after allegedly skipping bail and fleeing Victoria 29 years ago.

He’s accused of driving at two police officers as they approached a stolen vehicle, throwing one from the bonnet and inflicting career-ending injuries on the other.
